Tyler has been directing the chorus since April, 2018, and before that he sang in the Great Northern Union Barbershop Chorus (the Hilltop Chapter, commonly referred to as the GNU) on and off since the summer of 2010, including participating in two international conventions with the chorus.
Tyler grew up in Minneapolis and graduated from Edina High School in 2008. He credits is time in the district's music programs as the impetus that started him on his journey as a lifelong educator, learner, and musician (both vocal and instrumental).
Tyler attended the University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire and graduated in 2014 with a Bachelor's in Music Education. In his time there, Tyler found many opportunities to sing at "Wisconsin's Singing University," including singing in the Singing Statesmen, the Chamber Singers and the Symphonic Choir.
In 2015, Tyler moved back to the Twin Cities and has since held a variety of positions within schools and educational programs in the metro area. He is currently a building substitute for a charter elementary school that specializes in serving kids with special needs, located in Northeast Minneapolis. In addition to subbing, Tyler also teaches guitar and ukulele lessons at the Yinghua Academy Conservatory of Music, and substitutes for staff singers and instrumentalists at various churches around the area.
Tyler prides himself in being a well-rounded musician, and as such, has a few other musical pursuits he enjoys. For example, Tyler is part of a singer-songwriter duo called the Beau Ties with his wife Annalie, and he plays bass and sings backup in a six-piece band named "I Am."
Tyler lives in Plymouth, MN with his wife Annalie (they were married in October, 2018) and their cat Wesley.
