Jay has been singing barbershop harmony his whole life and has been a member of the Barbershop Harmony Society for 40 years. He loves being part of the Croix Chordsmen and sharing his experience and talents with such a fun group of men. Working together with Lee, and the music team, on a path of continuous improvement for the chorus is truly a joy. And he especially enjoys having his arrangements sung by the chorus.
Many of you will recognize Jay as the tenor of Vocality, a Land O’ Lake District Hall of Fame quartet. And Jay is the immediate past president of the Land O’ Lakes District. When he isn’t engaged in a barbershop activity he enjoys boating, fishing and spending time with his family, especially his three grandchildren! And, as time permits, Jay does some business consulting as the President of Lake Avenue Group.
Lee has been singing since he was knee high to a grasshopper in the kids’ choir at Trinity Lutheran Church (Stillwater, MN) and over the years singing with all the church choirs as well as the Stillwater High School choirs and the Vagabonds. College Lee continued with his musical career singing in various groups and considering a music career, until he found computer science, so music became a passion vs a career.
One of the common elements amongst all the groups Lee sang with were directors kindly reminding him to “STAND STILL” when you sing……. Lee was introduced to barbershop music in 1977 randomly by the Chordsmen singing in the hallway of the St. Croix Mall. When they were finished Judd made an invitation that if anyone wanted to join us (literally) come to the barbershop, learn about us and “try out” for the chorus. Lee has been connected with the chorus, as much as possible ever since. Thanks Judd!!! Singing barbershop has been a passion of his ever since that first introduction. Everywhere he has lived he has sung with choruses and quartets. Lee is honored to be the assistant director and he does not have to STAND STILL!!!
